Spinning Gold knew every record shop between the bus depot and the riverfront. By 1988, neighborhood DJs recognized the dark-green bomber jacket, knit cap and milk crate packed with vinyl before they ever saw his face.
Gold spent Saturday afternoons digging past the obvious hits for overlooked grooves, clean drum breaks and the one record that could rescue a tired dance floor. He never guarded a good find—if a young DJ showed real curiosity, Gold would hand over a sleeve and tell them exactly where to drop the needle.
