Paula ran the cleanest double-dutch circle on the neighborhood court. By the late 1980s, the black-and-purple warm-up suit and high-top sneakers meant she had come ready to set the pace—not just pose for it.
After school and on Saturday afternoons, Paula brought the ropes, the boom box and enough patience to teach any kid willing to keep trying. The regulars knew her as a sharp-eyed coach with a quick laugh who could turn one missed step into the start of a new routine.
